WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WFSB) - Cleanup continues across Connecticut after Winter Storm Benjamin dumped more than a foot of snow in most communities, prompting dozens of school districts to close or delay classes for a second day.

Snow remains piled up along parking lots and a thin layer covers sidewalks and walkways at South Elementary School in Windsor Locks.

The district closed schools for a second day to give crews time to clear roads, sidewalks, bus stops and school buildings.

Residents dig out from storm

[Reporter: How long have you been clearing out today?]

“About 7 hours. On average ones taking roughly 40 to 45 minutes.”

Dylan Falso has been snow blowing homes all around Windsor Locks and as of reached his eleventh and final stop of the night as cleanup efforts continued.

“The ends are pretty packed in from the snow plows,” added Falso.

Falso said he’s a fan of the snow and cleanup is just part of it.

“It’s a little cold but I’m not cold anymore,” he said.

Road conditions remain challenging

Getting from place to place hasn’t been easy, as roads are still covered in snow.

“They’re a little rough. Nothing has been super super clear. And probably because of the wind,” Falso said.

Windsor Locks Schools are closed again to give more time for crews to clear roads, sidewalks, bus stops and school buildings.

Other communities including East Windsor, Hartford and Waterbury also need more time to dig out of the winter storm.

“I can’t remember the last time we got this much in a night. It’s kind of wild,” Falso said.
