Fire rips through Norwalk home, spreads to garage, prompting third alarm response

NORWALK, Conn. (WFSB) - A third-alarm fire damaged a Norwalk home and spread to a detached garage on Saturday night.
Firefighters were called to a home located on Stuart Ave at 10:14 p.m. after several people called to report a house fire with possible people still inside, according to the fire department.
When crews arrived, they found heavy fire in the back of the 1.5-story residence actively spreading into both floors.
Officials said the fire also spread to a detached garage, and a neighboring home began to off-gas as its siding melted from the heat.
Second and third alarms struck
A second and third alarm were quickly struck, bringing all five Norwalk engines to the scene, fire officials said. Hand lines were stretched to both floors of the residence and to the exterior of the structure.
Firefighters conducted primary and secondary searches while the building was ventilated and power was secured. The bulk of the fire was knocked down within 20 minutes.
Fire officials said no one was inside the home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported in this incident.
The residence was under renovation and no occupants were displaced.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
No further details were released.
