First responders were called to a Davenport apartment last Sunday evening after Fowler’s 7-month-old baby was found unresponsive. Paramedics revived the infant using CPR before rushing the child to the hospital.

Doctors at the hospital determined the baby had suffered a brain bleed and multiple skull fractures. The infant was intubated before being flown to an Iowa City hospital in critical condition.

Davenport Police say Fowler admitted he was holding the baby when the child pulled his hair. The father allegedly responded by throwing the infant into a metal doorframe, causing the baby to strike its head and fall to the ground.

Fowler is being held on a $500,000 cash-only bond, according to online jail records.
