18-year-old nearly loses legs in freak farm accident the day after his birthday
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WBAY/Gray News) - An 18-year-old Wisconsin man says he’s grateful to be alive and to still have both of his legs after a freak farm accident left him seriously injured.
Mason Kramer says he loves doing hands-on work at his Sheboygan farm, but he suffered life-threatening injuries while cleaning out the silo June 18. It was the day after his 18th birthday.
Kramer, a Sheboygan North High School graduate, fell and got his legs stuck in a silo unloader, leaving him with serious injuries. He also lost a life-threatening amount of blood.

“I was really concerned for my legs. And, ultimately, my life because I lost so much blood. So, it was definitely a really scary thing,” he said.
Kramer was flown to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, where he went through three surgeries totaling 23 hours. He is still in the hospital, but doctors expect him to make a complete recovery.
“I made it out alive. I still have my legs and my feet. So, it’s just a blessing how it turned out,” Kramer said. “The Flight for Life team and then all the doctors that did my surgeries, they’re the reason why I still have my legs.”
Kramer is expected to be released from the hospital Friday but will continue undergoing physical therapy afterward. He says he’ll be back doing what he loves as soon as he’s healed.
“All of my recovery has been going really well,” he said. “It’s just a blessing how well it’s been going.”
