Bridgeport man accused of pointing gun at SUV carrying three children on Route 25 in Trumbull

TRUMBULL, Conn. (WFSB) - A Bridgeport man is facing multiple charges after state police say he pointed a handgun at a driver who had three children in the car during a road rage incident on Route 25 in Trumbull last month.

Police say the incident started on Route 8, where the complainant told troopers a minivan cut them off and began driving aggressively. Fearing for their safety, the driver tried to put distance between the two vehicles.

Near Exit 5 on Route 25 in Trumbull, the situation escalated. The complainant said the minivan operator appeared to point a handgun in their direction. The incident was caught on the SUV’s dashboard camera, and when investigators reviewed the footage, they said it backed up the complainant’s account.

State police traced the minivan to its registered owner and directed that person to drive to the Fairfield Rest Area to meet with troopers. There, they identified the driver as Jeffrey Guerette, 44, of Bridgeport.

A search of the minivan turned up a loaded 9mm handgun inside a box in the vehicle. Guerette also held a valid Connecticut pistol permit. Both the firearm and the permit were seized as evidence.

Guerette was arrested and transported to Troop G in Bridgeport. He is charged with breach of peace in the second degree, threatening in the first degree by displaying a firearm, reckless endangerment in the first degree, risk of injury to a minor (three counts), reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

He was released on a $20,000 cash bond and is scheduled for arraignment at Bridgeport Superior Court on Aug. 24, 2026.
