No. 20 UConn men’s hockey hosts Holy Cross in first home game of year
The Huskies lost 2-1 to the Crusaders on Friday night.
(WFSB) - UConn men’s hockey hosts Holy Cross on Saturday in their first home game of the year.
The Huskies have played three games, including Friday’s matchup against Holy Cross.
The Crusaders defeated them in a tightly contested, physical game, 2-1.
The outcome was difficult to swallow; Holy Cross scored the game-winning goal while they were on the penalty kill.
Luckily for UConn, the two teams play again within 24 hours, so they have a shot at getting even.
They need a much better performance in all phases of special teams to win on Saturday night.
Huskies fans will hope for another positive performance from players like Jake Richard, Joe Muldowney, and Hudson Schandor.
All three played very well in Worcester; Richard, a freshman from Jacksonville, FL., scored UConn’s only goal.
Junior Chase Bradley missed Friday’s game with an injury; it remains to be seen whether or not he will play on Saturday.
Senior transfer goaltender Ethan Haider is expected to see substantial time between the pipes this season.
He’s top 10 in the NCAA amongst active goaltenders in games played, wins, goals against average, and shutouts.
Don’t be surprised if you see the transfer get the nod on Saturday night, as UConn forms a rotation with Sergeev and Haider.
The puck drops at 7 p.m. at Toscano Family Ice Forum in Storrs.
The game will be available on ESPN+, and there will also be a radio broadcast on UConn Sports Network from Learfield, ESPN 97.9 FM.
