25-year-old woman killed in New Haven car crash

A 25-year-old woman was killed early Saturday morning after she crashed into a tree in New Haven, police said.

NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) - A 25-year-old woman was killed early Saturday morning after she crashed into a tree in New Haven, police said.

Police identified her as 25-year-old Shaquaza Morris of New Haven.

Officers responded to the area of Shelton Avenue and Gibbs Street around 1:51 a.m. following reports of a serious crash.

Investigators said Morris was headed south on Shelton Avenue when she went over a speed bump, swerved left, and crashed into the tree.

Emergency responders found her suffering from life-threatening injuries.

She was transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Police said the woman’s next of kin was notified and responded to the hospital.

The department’s Crash Reconstruction Team is investigating.
