Woman dies after SUV strikes her, crashes into liquor store in Enfield

ENFIELD, Conn. (WFSB) - A woman has died after being struck by an SUV in Enfield on Saturday morning.

The woman was identified as Kimberly Knowles, age 57.

According to police, the crash happened around 9:43 a.m. at the intersection of Hazard Avenue and Middle Road.

Witnesses said the victim was standing near the crosswalk when she was hit by the SUV.

Those who saw it said the car continued driving before crashing into The Jug Shop liquor store.

Exclusive eyewitness video showed the moments before the crash.

In the video, a BMW can be seen driving through the intersection and hitting the curb on the edge of the crosswalk.

Witnesses told Channel 3 that Knowles was just out of view of the video when she was struck.

Police said she died shortly after at a nearby hospital.

More video showed moments after the crash where several people ran towards the liquor store to help the person in the car.

The driver, 36-year-old Quinton McCauley, was hospitalized with minor injuries.

“Everyone was in shock, especially to see that elder lady on the floor, gasping for air,” said Jensey Peralta, Owner of The Goat Tints.

Peralta is the owner of a nearby store.

He described the damage inside that liquor store and the fear that him and others felt when trying to help.

“It’s total chaos in there. You know liquor store, liquor all over the floor, broken glass everywhere. There were some fumes in there, we were afraid it was going to get caught up on fire,” Peralta added.

Mayank Jariwal was inside the liquor store when the car crashed through. He was not hurt.

“I don’t have the right kind of words to express what I’m feeling, but I’m scared right now too,” said Jariwal.

Satish Panchal owns The Jug Shop. He had people working to board up the massive holes in his building after the incident.

Panchal believed he lost about $80,000 to $90,000 worth of wine, whiskey, and tequila in the crash.

“Once my business reopens, I will get my money back. But the person we lost we can’t get back,” he said.

Panchal hoped to reopen his store over the next few weeks after going through the insurance process.

Police have not announced any arrests related to this crash.
