Rockville High kicker Molly Wilson inspiring the next generation with outstanding career

VERNON, CT. (WFSB) - Molly Wilson never imagined that following her dad’s suggestion to try football would lead to rewriting Connecticut high school sports history.

The Rockville High School senior has shattered multiple state records as the team’s place kicker, becoming the one of the most successful female kickers in Connecticut history.

She holds the record for most points scored in a game, most extra points made, and most career points by a female kicker in state history.

“The fact that there was even records to break for a female playing football is just amazing,” she said.

Wilson has served as Rockville’s place kicker since her freshman year, joining the team at her father’s encouragement despite her initial hesitation.

“My dad was kind of the one who got me into it. So, he really like told me, you should play, and I was like ooooh. That’s kind of scary, but ok,” she continued.

What began as a way to make her parents proud evolved into a record-breaking high school career that has inspired teammates and coaches alike.

Wilson converted nine extra point attempts in Rockville’s victory over SMSA last week, which highlighted her consistent performance and dedication to improvement.

“In the SMSA game, I think it was my last kick that I made, I heard one of the guys on the team, he was like, she’s low-key tough, and I was like, oh,” she continued. “So, there’s always going to be doubters, but then there’s always going to be people who believe in you too. So, it’s kind of both sides are motivators.”

Rockville Head Coach Eric Senger praised Wilson’s work ethic and commitment to excellence.

“She puts in the work to earn all of her accomplishments. It’s nothing that happens by accident, and when we talk about some of our team things, discipline, and we talk about commitment, she lives those every single day,” he said.

Her success extends beyond personal achievement, serving as motivation for other young women considering football or pursuing their athletic dreams.

“Show the other girls that they can also do it, and they can do whatever they strive to do, and they just have to be confident in themselves and work hard and they can accomplish great things,” she said.

Her motivation stems from a desire to honor those who supported her journey.

“Coach Knickerbocker always talks about our why, like why we play, why we keep showing up every day, and one of my why’s is I want to make them proud,” she added.

Wilson is not done yet though. as she has opportunities to break additional records.

“If you look at her overall records, she’s currently 11th all-time for point after touchdowns, and she’s currently in the top 20 for points scored for kickers in state history,” said Senger.

Wilson remains grateful for the opportunity to compete at the highest level.

“I think it’s just amazing that I even got the opportunity to do this, and that my teammates and coaches put me in the position where I was able to,” Wilson said.
