UConn’s Skyler Bell confirms Fenway Bowl participation after being named consensus All-American

STORRS, CT. (WFSB) - UConn wide receiver Skyler Bell became the program’s first-ever consensus All-American and confirmed that he will play in next week’s Wasabi Fenway Bowl against Army.

Bell addressed speculation about his bowl game participation during team preparations on campus.

“Yeah, I didn’t say I wasn’t playing, so I don’t know why y’all are wondering,” he said. “I appreciate y’all.”

Bell could’ve focused on NFL preparation instead of the bowl game. He said his commitment stems from his love of football.

“If you know me or been around me you know, I’m a football player. I love to play football. I came into college before NIL, when you just played football on scholarship,” he added.

Bell’s decision resonated with teammates who praised his loyalty to the program.

“I think that shows his leadership, his love for this team, the brotherhood. That shows a lot,” said starting center Wes Hoeh.

Defensive Back Cam Chadwick said Bell’s commitment reflects his character.

“It shows a lot about his character. It shows he’s bought in and go out there with his brothers and try and win the bowl game,” he said.

Some players have opted out of the Fenway Bowl, including quarterback Joe Fagnano. Bell and other players said they will not judge teammates who chose to sit out.

“That’s not the plan. I know I’m playing and the guys around me want to play so that’s my feeling,” added Hoeh.

The Huskies will face Army at Fenway Park on December 27th. Interim Head Coach Gordon Sammis will hold his next press conference in Boston the day before the bowl game.
