Fire spreads through multiple floors of Mitchell Place building Tuesday morning

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) - A fire at a three-family home on in West Hartford displaced 13 residents Tuesday morning after flames spread through multiple floors of the building.

The fire was first reported at 11:14 a.m. on the second floor at 17 Mitchell Place.

Officials say all residents had evacuated before firefighters arrived. The fire extended throughout portions of the second floor, third floor and attic.

All West Hartford Fire Department units and the UConn Fire Department operated at the scene. West Hartford Police and American Medical Response also provided assistance.

The bulk of the fire was knocked down by 11:26 a.m.

No injuries were reported to residents or fire personnel.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Building Department is evaluating the structure.

The Office of Emergency Management, CERT Team members and Medical Resiliency Coordinator are working with the Red Cross to relocate the 13 displaced occupants.
