3-year-old dies after getting her head stuck in kitchen playset

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (Gray News) - A 3-year-old Florida girl died after getting her head stuck in a kitchen playset, according to police and local media.

Boynton Beach Police responded July 23 to a home for reports of a 3-year-old girl who was unresponsive and not breathing. Upon arriving, officers found the toddler and immediately began lifesaving measures.

She was taken to the hospital but died four days later, according to local media reports.

A preliminary investigation showed the 3-year-old and her sibling were at a babysitter’s house when the incident occurred. Police say the babysitter left the home, leaving the kids in their spouse’s care.

The spouse remained upstairs as the kids played downstairs but periodically checked on them, according to police. At one point, while checking on the kids, the spouse found the 3-year-old with her head stuck in a kitchen playset.

Police say the spouse freed the little girl and performed lifesaving measures until first responders arrived.

The toddler’s sibling told police the girl’s toys had fallen into the playset, and when she tried to get them, she got stuck.

Investigators say the playset was “an old wooden set that was bought off of Facebook Marketplace.” They do not know the make, model or brand, WPEC reports.

Charges have not been filed in the case, and the investigation remains ongoing.
