Mom, teen daughter killed in their home by 73-year-old neighbor over noise complaint, authorities say

HOUSE SPRINGS, Mo. (Gray News) — A 17-year-old girl and her mother were shot and killed at their house by a neighbor over a noise complaint, according to authorities.

The deadly shooting happened July 25 at a home in House Springs, Missouri, which is about 40 minutes southwest of St. Louis.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, 73-year-old Robert Winkelman walked down the street to a neighbor’s house and got into an argument over noise.

Winkelman then is accused of pulling out a gun and shooting the 38-year-old mother, Jessica Lashley, in the head. Her daughter, 17-year-old Jersey Greer, attempted to provide first aid to her mother, but Winkelman then allegedly shot her in the head, too.

The sheriff’s office said Winkelman chased a third person, but that person was not shot.

When deputies arrived at the scene and confronted Winkelman, he shot himself in the head, according to the sheriff’s office.

Both victims were taken to the hospital, where they died two days later.

Winkelman remained in critical condition at the hospital for more than a week, but he died Aug. 2.

The sheriff’s office said multiple witnesses were at the scene and were able to tell investigators what happened.

Jersey’s twin sister, Justice Greer, was at work when the shooting took place.

She told KSDK that her sister was the “funniest person ever” and could make anybody laugh.

The twins were inseparable and were preparing to begin their senior year together at Northwest High School, where they played together on the lacrosse team. Justice said they planned to play college lacrosse together.

Justice told KSDK that her mother, Lashley, was a hardworking single mother who did everything for her twin daughters.

“It was always just us three,” Justice told KSDK. “It’s going to be really hard because that’s all I’m used to.”

Justice is remembering her sister’s final moments as an act of bravery.

“Jersey’s last moments, she was trying to save my mom. It just shows how brave she is, and I hope I can be half as brave as she is,” she told KSDK.
