CONNECTICUT (WFSB) - National Oyster Day is giving oyster lovers a reason to visit the Connecticut Oyster Trail, a collection of restaurants along the shoreline where guests can find fresh, local oysters.

374 Kitchen and Cocktails is one of the many spots on the trail. Paul Formica, owner of 374 Kitchen and Cocktails and Flanders Fish Market, said the trail puts a spotlight on the state’s oyster scene.

“We’re very glad to play a small part in the oyster trail but it just really highlights that Connecticut is the New England capital for oysters,” Formica said.

Max Fish is another stop on the Connecticut Oyster Trail. Nick Stinziani, executive chef for Max Fish, said the restaurant keeps a wide selection available.

“We always have a huge selection of raw bar oysters. You can watch our guys shuck oysters,” Stinziani said.

Tony D’s is also on the Connecticut Oyster Trail. Owner and chef Anthony D’Angelo said the oysters served at Tony D’s and his other restaurant, Fat Tuna, are sourced locally.

“The oysters that we get here and at Tony’s… it actually started at Tony’s and my friend TJ Londregan, right out here in the bay. He has 6 acres of farmland for oysters. Probably like 85% of the oysters you get here gonna be from Niantic Bay,” D’Angelo said.
