Friends, family mark 5 years since disappearance, murder of Jennifer Farber Dulos

NEW CANAAN, CT (WFSB) - Friends and family of a murdered mother from New Canaan marked five years since her disappearance.

Jennifer Farber Dulos dropped her children off at school on May 24, 2019 and was never seen again.

Carrie Luft, Farber Dulos’ longtime friend, released a statement on Thursday on behalf of her family and friends.

“As of May 24, Jennifer Farber Dulos has been gone for five years. We miss her every day, in every way. There are so many daily reminders of Jennifer—a shared reference, a musical riff, a delighted laugh, a graceful silhouette in the distance. Her strength of character, her intelligence, and her tenacity live on in her children. She would be so very, very proud of the young adults they have become.
For us, five years is not a milestone but a marker of cumulative loss and longing. Life goes on, yet grief goes on alongside it, a shadow, a current, the presence of absence.
We hold fast in our belief that Jennifer’s body will be found. The investigation is active, and we are ever grateful to the Connecticut State Police and the state’s attorney’s office for their continuing work on this case.
In Jennifer’s memory, we encourage you to hug your loved ones; take time to listen to a child; play your favorite song; or send a note to brighten someone’s day.
We also urge those who can do so to donate to local organizations that support survivors of intimate partner violence, such as Interval House Hartford; and to organizations that work on behalf of missing and murdered women of color, such as the Black and Missing Foundation, National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center, and many others.

Calls for support of domestic violence victims continues to grow strong.

Interval House is the largest agency in the state dedicated to ending domestic violence. They have renamed their annual walk to honor Dulos.

“If the abuser gets wind that the victim is trying to leave them or depart from the family, that’s when violence can escalate,” said Amanda Delaura with Interval House.

The National Indigenous Women’s Resource Center and the Black and Missing Foundation work on behalf of missing and murdered women of color.

Derrica Wilson is a co-founder of the Black and Missing Foundation. She says you can support them by donating, volunteering, or by following the organization on social media and sharing their stories.

“This is a humanity issue. It’s not black. It’s not white. Everyone is human, and these families their heart bleeds the same way,” said Wilson.

May 24th is an important day for her as well, serving as the 16 year anniversary since she started the nonprofit. Since then, they have helped 400 families get answers.

Their research finds people of color make up a disproportionate number of missing people, and they get less attention.

“We are hopeful that at some point the black and missing foundation dies a natural death where law enforcement handles all cases the same, where the media is fair about the coverage because race, gender and zipcode should not be a barrier to resources from law enforcement and the media,” she said.

Before her disappearance, Farber Dulos told a family judge that her estranged husband threatened her financially and physically.

Domestic violence deaths are common in Connecticut, Delaura said.

“We do know there have been 12 confirmed domestic violence murders in the state in the last 12 months,” she said.

The primary suspect in the case, Farber Dulos’ estranged husband Fotis Dulos, was initially arrested and charged with murder. However, he took his own life in Jan. 2020.

Fotis Dulos’ ex-girlfriend Michelle Troconis was convicted on March 1 of conspiracy to commit murder, hindering prosecution and tampering with evidence in connection with the case. Her sentencing was set for May 31.
