2 men accused of trying to steal highway sign from I-91 in Windsor

WINDSOR, Conn. (WFSB) - Two men were arrested for allegedly trying to steal a Department of Transportation sign on I-91 in Windsor on Wednesday.

The suspects were identified as Andrew Scott Lampkin, 42, and Jonathan Riopelle, 46, from Vernon. Police said Lampkin was unhoused in the Vernon area.

In a photo provided by state police, the road sign appeared to be strapped to a white pickup truck.

According to officials, this attempted theft happened around 8:30 a.m. along I-91 northbound and exit 37.

Both men were arrested and charged with third degree larceny, reckless use of highway by a pedestrian, and improper parking on a highway.

They were each released on a $500 bond and were scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 21.
