Campus sendoff: UConn men head to DC for Sweet 16
Event planned for tonight near Gampel Pavilion
STORRS, CT (WFSB) - The 2nd-seeded UConn men’s basketball team is off to the nation’s capital ahead of its NCAA tournament Sweet 16 matchup.
The university announced a sendoff event for the team Wednesday night on the Storrs campus.
The Huskies boarded a bus in front of the Werth Family UConn Basketball Champions Center next to Gampel Pavilion at 5:50 p.m.

They Huskies are headed to Washington DC for the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.
UConn is set to take on 3rd-seeded Michigan State on Friday at the Capitol One Arena.
The tip-off time is approximately 9:45 p.m. Fans can watch the game on WFSB Channel 3.
The road so far
UConn defeated No. 15 Furman on Friday, 82-71, behind Tarris Reed Jr.’s 31 point and 27 rebound explosion.
Late Sunday night, the Huskies took down No. 7 UCLA, 73-57. Alex Karaban led the way with a career-high 27 points.
UConn has seen Michigan State before.
The Huskies faced off against the Spartans in Hartford at the end of October for their preseason finale. UConn won 76-69.
At the time, UConn was ranked 4th and Michigan State was ranked 22nd in the AP Top 25 Men’s College Basketball Poll.
The road ahead
Should the Huskies defeat the Spartans, they’ll face the winner of No. 1 Duke and No. 5 St. John’s in the Elite Eight.
The game is set for Sunday.
