Outages climb as storms rip through Connecticut

(WFSB) - Thousands of customers were impacted as storms ripped through Connecticut Friday evening.

More than 17,000 Eversource customers were without power as of 11:00 p.m.

There was also damage reported across the state, including in Southington and New Britain.

Bristol police said that Memorial Boulevard is closed on both sides between Main Street and Mellen Street due to multiple large trees falling near the monument. They are urging people to drive with caution and refrain from traveling on roads unless it is absolutely necessary.

More than 1,700 people are without power in the city.
