Man ‘used his bicycle and smashed a window’, 2 arrested after fight over political sign in Bristol

BRISTOL, CT (WFSB) - Two men were arrested after a fight over a political sign in Bristol.

The two men were identified as Tomek Paluch, 36, from Bristol, and John Provenzano, 65, from Torrington.

According to police, Paluch and Provenzano were involved in a fight at the intersection of Brook Street and Farmington Avenue around 9 a.m.

“While Paluch was riding his bicycle, he removed a political sign from a yard and threw it... He was then confronted by Provenzano,” wrote Bristol police.

They confirmed Paluch used his bike to smash a window of Provenzano’s car.

“The two began to physically fight in the road,” police said.

During the fight, pliers were reportedly used as a weapon.

Both men were arrested on Friday.

Paluch was charged with second degree breach of peace, two counts of second degree criminal mischief, third degree assault of an elderly person, and bicycle roadway violation.

He was released on a $5,000 bond.

Provenzano was charged with second degree breach of peace, tampering with evidence, second degree criminal assault, third degree criminal attempt in assault, reckless driving, and failure to drive in the proper lane.

He was released on a $10,000 bond.

Both suspects were expected to appear in court on August 8.

Bristol police asked people to be mindful of other’s political beliefs and to not engage in fighting behavior ahead of the upcoming local election.
